November 2006

The AC Tour Week for High School Student Groups
6-10 November and  20-24 November

We would like students and English teachers to get more acquainted with the American Corner Debrecen so we give this week between the 6th and 10th of November to high school groups. You may come and visit us during an English class or after school. We give you a presentation either in English or Hungarian (depending on the group's level) on how the Corner was established, what you may use here and how.
We would like to start new programs targeting especially high school students, but we need to know what it is that they would like to do or know more about.
So if you are a student inform your teacher about the opportunity and if you are a teacher please call us to arrange an appointment! We are absolutely flexible considering the opening hours, so do not hezitate to contact us!

Jay Miller’s performances
9 November,
Belvárosi Közösségi Ház (1 Kossuth Street)

1) "A Day at the Circus" – 2 pm
Interactive Pantomime for Young Audiences in 50 minutes

The circus comes alive before your eyes as the children participate in creating the characters under the BIG TOP. The strong man, the tightrope walker, the high wire act, the lion tamer and more...

2) "Stories from Around the World and Home" – 6.30 pm
High School and Family audiences

A concert of fables and folktales, from the hilarious to the profound.
These tales, passed on for generations, span time and culture to reflect the universality of our struggles, our quest for joy, understanding and survival. These stories come alive with Jay's special style using mime and the spoken word.
Sharing these tales creates a dialogue among people, retelling them, passing them on through generations keeps them alive to evoke the child in the hearts of us all.

3) Workshop with Jay Miller – 8 pm

Jay Miller, mime, storyteller and arts educator has performed, taught and directed theatre in schools, prisons, hospitals, libraries and festivals throughout the world.
He has lived and worked in Europe, making Budapest, Hungary his home, for ten years. He is a professor at Budapest College of Communication (BKF) and McDaniel College, Budapest where he teaches public speaking, US and Canadian studies, journalism and yoga.

After his second performance, he is going to have a workshop with members of the audience. Feel free to join this heterogeneous group!
