A lot has changed since our last U.S. Election Update. As you probably know, on November 4th, Barack Obama won the US presidential election and now the United States is preparing for a presidential transition. Our election experts are going to analyze the election as well as the current political situation. Your opinion is also more than welcome!

25th November, 6 pm              Afghanistan in Pictures: The Current Situation and Its Prospects For Tomorrow

 

Most of us do not have any first-hand experience about Afghanistan. Political Officer Richard Jao is visiting us to share his own experiences through his photos and his unique presentation.

Richard Jao is currently a political/economic officer at the U.S. Embassy in Budapest, Hungary. In the first half of 2008, Richard was a political officer at the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan where he met with the Hungarian PRT and Afghan leaders in Baghlan province. Previously, he was a Vice-Consul at the U.S. Consulate in Guangzhou, China. He holds a B.S. from the University of California, Berkeley.

           From Subprime Mortgage to Financial Market Crisis: 
                                                                          An Overview of the 2007-08 Economic Situation in the U. S.

 

We are all inundated with alarming news about the current economic situation. If you would like to get the inside scoop about the situation of the US economy, this presentation by economic officer Steve Weston is for you!

Steven Weston serves as the senior Economic Officer at the U.S. Embassy to Hungary in Budapest. He previously served tours in Shanghai, China, as well as in Luxembourg and in the Economic Bureau in Washington, DC. Prior to joining the Foreign Service, he worked at the U.S. Department of Commerce, focusing on the negotiation and implementation of international trade agreements. Before joining the federal government, he worked as a general practice attorney in Washington, DC. Mr. Weston holds a Bachelor’s degree in international relations from UCLA, and a Master’s degree in the same field from the American University in Washington, DC. He also received a J.D. degree from the American University’s Washington College of Law, and is licensed to practice law in the State of Maryland. He is originally from Los Angeles, California, and is married and has two children.
